Why athletes get stuck

“Stop Doing CrossFit” Is Not a Treatment Plan

Most sports injuries in active adults are load problems: too much, too soon, or too much of one thing. Generic rehab often ignores that and prescribes rest, then a sheet of light exercises that look nothing like your sport.

The result is an athlete who feels okay on the table, then re-injures the first week back.

We keep you training wherever possible, modify what needs modifying, treat the injury directly, and rebuild you with the same tools you train with: barbells, kettlebells, rigs and open space.

The OLO advantage

A Clinic Inside Wolverine Strength & Conditioning

Our private clinic sits inside Wolverine Strength & Conditioning on State Circle. That means your rehab can happen with real equipment, under real load, in the environment you’ll be training in.

It also means we can watch the movement that hurts, whether that’s a clean, a kipping pull-up or a box jump, instead of guessing from a description.

Train through it, smartly

Modified programming keeps your fitness while the injury heals.

Coach-level movement eyes

A USA Weightlifting coach assessing your lifting technique.

Return-to-sport benchmarks

Clear strength and movement tests so you know when you’re truly ready.

Your first visit

What to Expect at Your First Sports Injury Visit

A full 60 minutes, one-on-one with Dr. Joe. Treatment usually starts the same day.

1

Your sport, your training, your injury

What you do, how much, what happened, and your next competition or goal.

2

Assessment plus movement analysis

A thorough exam and, when useful, watching the lift, run or skill that hurts.

3

Treatment and modified programming

Hands-on care, targeted exercise, and a plan for what you can keep doing right now.

I’m really grateful I worked with Joe. He made sure to understand my athletic goals in order to develop a tailored therapy program. He also helped me understand which exercises to prioritize so that I could make the most improvement within the context of a busy schedule as a new father. I made significant progress since working with him and following his recommendations, to the point where I now have no knee pain!

When to see a physician first

Physical therapy is a great first stop for most sports injuries. But some symptoms need a medical evaluation right away. Seek urgent care or call 911 if you have:

  • A head injury with headache, confusion, dizziness or memory problems
  • Can’t bear weight or move the injured area
  • A visible deformity or suspected fracture or dislocation
  • A loud pop with immediate, significant swelling
  • Numbness or weakness that’s getting worse
  • Calf pain, swelling or redness, especially after surgery or travel

Not sure? Call us. If something in your evaluation doesn’t add up, Dr. Joe will tell you and point you to the right provider.

Ready to Get Back in the Game?

Tell us what’s going on. We’ll call or text to get you scheduled, or set up a free consultation if you’d like to talk it through first.
