Straight answers about cash-based physical therapy in Ann Arbor, from referrals and HSA/FSA to what happens at your first visit.
No, not to get started. Michigan is a direct access state (Public Act 260 of 2014), so you can see a physical therapist for up to 21 days or 10 treatment visits, whichever comes first, without a referral.
If your care needs to continue beyond that window, a physician’s referral or a signed plan of care is required. We’ll let you know well ahead of time if that applies to you.
Request an appointment online or call or text (734) 707-7285. We’ll reach out to answer your questions and find a time that works.
Yes. Ask for a free consultation when you reach out and we’ll set up a quick conversation, so you can ask questions and make sure OLO is the right fit before booking.
We treat a wide range of orthopedic and sports-related problems, including back, neck, shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, foot and ankle pain, TMJ, headaches, sports injuries and post-surgical rehab. See everything we treat.
OLO is a cash-based (private pay), out-of-network practice. Payment is collected at the time of service. Many clients use their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), and we can provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Because insurance-based care often limits what we can do for you. Insurance models tend to push clinics toward shorter visits, more patients per hour, visit caps and treatment decisions driven by coverage rules rather than your goals.
Staying out-of-network is what lets every OLO visit be a full 60 minutes, one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. No waiting on authorizations, no rotating staff, and a plan built around what you actually want to get back to.
Yes. Physical therapy is generally an eligible expense, and many of our clients pay with their HSA or FSA card. Check with your plan administrator if you’re unsure.
If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be able to get part of your cost back. Here’s how it works:
1) Pay for your session at the time of service. 2) We provide a superbill, a detailed receipt with the codes insurers need. 3) You submit it to your insurance company. 4) Any reimbursement is paid to you, based on your plan’s out-of-network benefits and deductible.
Tip: call the number on your insurance card and ask about “out-of-network outpatient physical therapy benefits” before your first visit.
Every session is a full 60-minute, one-on-one appointment with Dr. Joe, and specialized treatments like dry needling and manual therapy are included rather than billed separately. Call or text (734) 707-7285 or request an appointment for current rates and any package options.
A full 60 minutes, one-on-one with Dr. Joe. We’ll talk through your history and goals, do a thorough movement assessment, and explain exactly what’s driving your pain. Treatment, including manual therapy or dry needling, usually starts that same day, and you’ll leave with a clear plan.
Every session is 60 minutes. How many sessions you need depends on your condition, how long you’ve had it and your goals. After your first visit, Dr. Joe will give you an honest estimate. We don’t believe in open-ended visit counts.
